Avanti Summer Sounds will be held in Porvoo from June 25 to June 29, 2025. The artistic director of the 2025 festival is composer Sebastian Fagerlund, who shares his thoughts on the opening concert:
”Avanti Summer Sounds is celebrating its 40th anniversary. For this reason, I have chosen Kaija Saariaho’s piece Forty Heartbeats as the opening work of the concert. She originally composed this piece as a 40th birthday gift for Esa-Pekka Salonen and Magnus Lindberg. For the soloist, I have invited the brilliant violinist Liza Ferschtman, who will interpret Beethoven’s captivating Violin Concerto. The concert, conducted by John Storgårds, will also feature Outi Tarkiainen’s Polar Pearls and my own Chamber Symphony.”
This year’s festival theme is “Light in the Light.” On the theme, Fagerlund says:
“The theme of Summer Sounds 2025 is ‘Light in the Light.’ The title connects to an abstract idea of music and musical expressions as light, carried through centuries by the hands of artists and composers. The light is reflected in different shades and intensities, while constantly being renewed, transformed, and branching out. In addition to my own music, I have chosen composers and works for the 2025 festival that I find interesting and significant, creating exciting and emotional dialogues within the concert program.”
